How To Join The Squares (Join As You Go Method)

The square motifs are joined at ch5 and ch3 spaces in the last round.
We are going to join the motifs together while working the last round
Start with one completed square motif.
Work the second square until you finish Round 4

Start Round 5sl st. into next 2 ch sts of next ch5, ch3 (counts as a dc), 1dc into same ch5 space, ch3, 2dc into same ch5 space, 5sc into next ch5 space, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) into next ch5 space, 5trc into next ch7 space, ch3,

Drop the loop of the hook, insert hook from front to back into ch5 space of the first square motif’s final round. Pick up the loop and pull it through the ch5 space.

Ch2,

5trc into that same ch7 space,

2dc into next ch5 space, ch2,

Drop the loop of the hook, insert hook from front to back into next ch3 space of the first motif’s final round. Pick up the loop and pull it through the ch3 space, ch1,

2dc into same ch5 space, 5sc into next ch5 space, 2dc into next ch5 space, ch2,

Drop the loop of the hook, insert hook from front to back into next ch3 space of the first motif’s final round. Pick up the loop and pull it through the ch3 space, ch1,

2dc into same ch5 space, 5trc into next ch7 space, ch3,

Drop the loop of the hook, insert hook from front to back into next ch5 space of the first motif’s final round. Pick up the loop and pull it through the ch5 space, ch2,

5trc into same ch7 space,

Finish the motif you are working on to the end of the round and fasten off.

If you want to join more squares, just join new squares to the previous ones along one side in a strip until you have a row of squares as long as you like. Once the first row is done, work the next row exactly as shown below.

Shared Corner Join

This join takes place where motifs 1 and 2 are already joined. Follow the previous steps in the same way until you get to the corner join area.
Ch3, drop the loop of the hook, insert hook into corner from front to back where motifs 1 and 2 are joined. Pick up a loop and pull it through, ch2

5trc into same ch7 space,

Finish the motif you are working on to the end of the round and fasten off.

Continue following the previous steps in the same way until all motifs are joined together. The corner join of 4th motif takes place where motifs 1, 2 and 3 are already joined.
